The user reviews were almost uniformly bad, but it received good ratings from Consumer Reports, so I took a chance. Live and learn. I gave it to my son because my kids had purchased one of those robot vacuums (Eufy) for me for Christmas. It's just fine, but it doesn't really handle the hair from my cat or all the threads left from quilting. So, I researched and went back to what I know is good! I would never buy anything else other than this Kenmore. People complain that it's heavy. Well, okay........what do you want it to do? Do you want something that will clean your carpet or something you can push easily and leaves you less than satisfied? I guess people will always find something to complain about. If you want something to do a good job and don't mind pushing something a bit heavier, get this vacuum. Truly, there's nothing else that works as good. I like that it's bagged. I don't like bagless vacuums and never have. I'm in my 60's and can handle this just fine. When I'm finished, it's done what I wanted it to do, every single time. It really does the job and picks up even hidden dirt better than any vacuum I've ever owned. It's not super light weight, but I'm good with that because it feels very sturdy and it's not difficult to push. I love the headlight, the dirt indicator and the on board tools. My carpet looked cleaner after the first time I used it. Like it much better than my Dyson or Shark, and I love nice clean hepa filter bag disposal vs. emptying out those dusty canisters and cleaning them. I also love that you can manually adjust for carpet height. We recently got new carpets and we were told the manufacturers warranty would be void if we had a problem and they did a service call and could see the carpet fibers ruined from standard vacuums pulling too hard. We were told to vacuum carpets at lowest setting but I love that I can change the height for rugs and flooring. I am so happy with this purchase! The self-propel does not disengage at any point so you are fighting the self-propel to pull the vacuum in reverse. But one does get a good "rowing" workout. 2. The 10ft hose is actually 5ft max when pulled as taught as you are likely to. Comical if it weren't so very disappointing. 3. There's one place to hold on to this vacuum: the end handle. Well, I like to grab my vacuum and vacuum the steps, but that's simply not possible because of no 2 places to grab. Makes it hard to carry up and down stairs, even if you find that the teeny hose and lame pet brush actually work for your stairs. Reviews with images

It's a heavy machine that's difficult to manuever. I'm a scrawny 5'7", 110 pounds, and although this vacuum is not self-propelled, it literally drags me through the house. Pulling the vacuum back toward me is not an easy feat. If you have any type of injury or mobility issue, this is probably not the vacuum for you. Also, many other people have pointed out, it's extremely loud.
The vacuum hose is ridiculously short, and the telescoping wand doesn't like to stay attached even though it has a locking mechanism to hold it in place. It's advertised as having a 10-ft reach, but I'd be surprised if it's really more than half that. Despite what the listing claims, you are not going to be able to use it to vacuum your ceiling fans unless you live in a Hobbit house. The various brush attachments are angled such that they can really only be used from a standing position, so you will not be able to use them to get down and clean under low furniture. I found trying to vacuum under beds to be impossible.
This model is supposed to be good for cleaning up pet hair, but I ended up having to pull a LOT of dog fur out from where it had wrapped around the vacuum brushes and roller. Likewise, this machine is recommended for people with allergies, but I had to clean a considerable amount of dust from the exterior of the machine when I finished vacuuming, so I'm not sure how helpful the HEPA filter or the bagged design on this machine really is.
Overall, this was a disappointing purchase, and I definitely would not recommend this model.

Really like the selection switch from carpet to floors works really well. Glad it comes with Heppa filter bag. Should really help with allergies.
