How to Install Internet Explorer 8 in Windows Xp Sp2

Anoop P K

Hi,

1) What is the exact error message you get when you try to install Internet Explorer?

2) Have you made any recent changes to the computer prior to the issue?

3) Are you able to install other programs now?

You may try the following method and check if it helps.

Did you not read my WHOLE post? I typed verbatim exactly the error msg. Windows gave me.

Also, as I explicitly stated in my post, it's not only I.E. 8, I can't install ANY progs after running Windows update on XP PRO 64 bit! & ALL progs installed before updating it won't open either: drivers for soundcard, Spybot Search & Destroy, etc. The only progs that will open are:  I.E. 6-32 bit, COMODO INTERNET SECURITY. Once AGAIN, the only changes made were formatting the HD, installing the OS, & updated Windows through the Windows update website.

Please RE-read my ENTIRE post.

P.S. The only way I can install/uninstall progs is to format the HD AGAIN, & to NOT run WINDOWS UPDATE!

Error msg. from orig post:  " The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000006). Click on OK to terminate the application "

I just formatted & installed the 64 bit version of XP 2 days ago for the 1st time ever on any PC. Anywya, this issue is causing ALL my progs to NOT open, except for 64 bit I.E. 6.

I can't even uninstall to reinstall the progs that won't open, as I get the same BS error msg as when I try & launch them. I get the same exact msg for every prog I try & open or uninstall or reinstall: "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000006). Click on OK to terminate the application"

Hi,

Are the programs compatible with 64-bit XP SP2? 64-bit systems were less common back when XP was the current OS.

Hello Don,

Yes, I have made sure of that before upgrading to XP 64 bit. All my progs even the oldest ones were made after 64 bit came out. The oens that refuised to pen were SpyBot Search & Destroy & all of my drivers for my soundcard which is built into my motherboard: RealTek. My mobo is designed to work w/XP-7 32/64 bit versions of each.

& this only occurred AFTER running Windows update from the Windows update site, not before, so therefore, it was effected negatively by some Windows update, seeing as how oct of them were security updates, I'd imagine it was one of them, but it might have been a diff one. I know many updates in the past have said such & such update caused this prob., so here DL this one to fix that. Prob is, after this occurred, I couldn't DL &/or install/uninstall ANYTHING! I had to format my HD for the 2nd time in 2 days just to get back online to try & find a solution to this prob. So, my options are not run Windows update & be vulnerable to security holes, & other issues, or update & not be able to run nor install/uninstall anything other than I.E. 6, & Comodo Internet Security-which I've been using for a few years now, & never had an issues w/it before & it's fuily compatible w/32/64 of WIndows from XP-7. Or to revert to Win XP 32 bit, & go back to only using 1/2 of my 8 GB's of RAM I bought for this PC on purpose seeing as how I was planning on buying XP PRO 64

So, IS there a patch or fix to this? Or better yet, to have M$ find & replace the update that's causing this issue, & replace it w/a fixed version which doesn't cause this issue at all? I just can't believe that as long as these updates have been available for XP Pro 64 that this has yet to be fixed.

BTW, the reason for my 'attitude' in my last post was because I took the time to type up EXACTLY in very explicit detail what the prob was, & to have someone write back & to ask me questions which were clearly explained in my initial post was a bit irritating to say the least. Why ask me a questions to which the answer was in my 1st post? It's just a waste of time & will just take even longer for it to be resolved if someone's just going to ask me a question to which the answer was already given to them. If you were me, I am sure you'd have felt the same way.

& I don't see how it's not the same prob. as others who posted in this forum originally. I cannot update Windows nor install I.E. 8 after running Win Update.

Can't some help me w/this? I don't wanna have to sell the 64 bit version of Windows I bought on ebay after going through all the trouble of trying for months just to get it, & then have to sell one 4 GB stick of my RAM since it is useless in 32 bit v. of Win XP!

Hi,

I think this is the most serious problem:
"I get the same exact msg for every prog I try & open or uninstall or reinstall: "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000006) "

But, let's try to fix 32-bit Internet Explorer first.

1. Try a winsock reset.

From Start> Run (or Win logo key + r) type in "netsh winsock reset" (without the ") hit Enter. Restart.

2. Go to http://iefaq.info/index.php?action=artikel&cat=24&id=31&artlang=en Download and run the repair script.
